As time has passed, clarity around use cases has improved. Therefore, more decision-makers are leaning toward incorporating AI in their workplace, with 87% of CEOs agreeing that the business benefits of AI outweigh the risks.

The latest Gartner CEO and Senior Business Executive Survey offers detailed insights into how today’s top executives think about AI and its transformative potential. This survey highlights an unprecedented level of enthusiasm among CEOs, underscoring AI’s role as the next major innovation poised to redefine industries. As we delve into the key findings, it becomes clear that while the excitement is palpable, navigating the complexities of AI implementation remains a critical challenge.

Here’s what the survey uncovered and how it aligns with our market insights.

Key Findings from the Gartner Survey

#1. There’s an unprecedented enthusiasm behind AI.

The survey found that 34% of CEOs consider AI the next major theme of transformation, far outstripping other priorities like operational efficiency, which only garnered 9%.

#2. The hype is valid.

Most skepticism about AI is slowly fading. The only residual tip-toeing is tied to crypto and blockchain tech. Now, a substantial 64% of CEOs believe that the recent advancements in AI justify the widespread excitement. Notably, three-quarters of these CEOs have personally used ChatGPT, with 44% incorporating it into their professional routines.

#3. Productivity is forecasted to increase.

Nearly half (49%) of the CEOs have integrated GenAI into their workforce productivity plans. More than a third expect over a 15% boost in productivity within the next two years, a sentiment consistent across various industries.

#4. Revenue (should) grow.

While 86% of CEOs are optimistic about AI’s ability to maintain or grow revenue, there is still uncertainty about the exact mechanisms. CEOs cite improved customer experience, increased talent productivity, and enhanced intelligence and analysis as primary drivers.

#5. A strategic team member uses AI.

Half of CEOs rely on their CIOs, CTOs, or CDOs to drive strategic value from AI, indicating a strong dependence on technical leadership to navigate AI integration. Only 13% of said CEOs will be taking on the task themselves.

How Do These Findings Align With Our Market Insights

Our own market research reflects similar trends. We’ve observed that CEOs are enthusiastic about AI but also grapple with the practical aspects of implementation. The potential for AI to transform business processes and drive growth is undeniable, but it comes with its set of challenges.

The biggest (and most crucial) challenge is data privacy.

As organizations increasingly utilize AI, the risk of exposing sensitive data grows. It’s intensely vital to handle this technology wisely to avoid catastrophic long-term consequences.

One immediate example is the inadvertent data sharing that occurs when employees use public ChatGPT. Any information entered into ChatGPT can be used to train its language learning model (LLM), making it accessible for future queries. This poses a significant risk as sensitive company data can be exposed to competitors and the public.

In April 2023, Samsung experienced data leaks when an employee submitted an entire meeting’s content to ChatGPT for minute creation. This issue isn’t unique to Samsung; a recent survey revealed that 10.8% of employees use ChatGPT, with 4.7% disclosing confidential workplace data in their queries.
